MEKADO operates in the field of architecture and urbanism and also devotes itself to topics related to society and art. We formulate creative spatial concepts in the areas of design, interior, architecture, urban planning, with a strong focus on social, technological and ecological integration. We stand for the entire process of spatial development, starting with interdisciplinary strategies, followed by an integral design all the way to implementation.
MEKADO is an international studio for Design, Architecture and Urbanism. The studio is based in Berlin and was founded in 2015 by the partners Slavis Poczebutas and Davide Prioli.
Mekado strives to develop individually tailored and sustainable design solutions for a wide range of challenges and programmes in design, architecture and planning. In our design, we value the process of experimentation and pursue the sensual use of space, programme and materiality. Our design strategies focus on developing integrated and holistic solutions, going as far as involving the unplanned and unfinished as a part of this process. This adds a valuable and essential creative force to our planning approach.
Our projects are developed in close dialogue with their environment and communities, tailored to the specific needs of their users. Moreover, we integrate the meaningful application of the latest technologies and the sensible use of existing and local resources into our work approach. The programmatic and strategic design approach plays an important role in our work.
MEKADO has a fascination for radical, spatial investigations focusing on the urban and rural landscapes, the in-between and the influence from multicultural exchange, global socio-economical and ecological drivers as well as new technologies. All together require new ways of architectural and urban organisation to develop a progressive urban future.
We are interested in areas beyond architecture that today have an increasing influence on the urban world and its inhabitants and users: technologies, science, ecology, renewable energies, politics, social dynamics and organisation, subcultures, music, art, media, fashion.
The solutions of our design are both functional and emotional. Our intention is to develop interdisciplinary and experimental concepts to create authentic spaces, which are often playful and visionary. Our ideas emerge out of a careful analysis and observation of how contemporary life evolves and changes around us.
Our design process is collaborative for all scales of projects ranging from design objects to urban development scenarios. We are rooted in the creative culture and operate as a network of specialists to collaborate intensively with clients and stakeholders.
We aim to drive spatial innovation in architecture and urbanism, with a strong focus on environmental and social integration. In creating a well-designed product, building or urban environment, there is an inherent value added to a long-term investment for the future.
MEKADO believes in the creative process, which takes inspiration from many sources. This process is shaped and informed by explorations into the spatial and cultural context, statistical data, socio-economic drivers and critical analysis of current urban issues and constraints. As such, the design will undergo a refinement process informing and inspiring the development of future planning scenarios.
